There's Nothing Linear About Our Movement Practices

Embarking on the journey toward improved physical mobility and pain relief is akin to embarking on a voyage of discovery—a voyage that demands repetition, dedication, and an understanding of the intricate workings of our bodies. Imagine it like squeezing toothpaste from a tube: a task that requires multiple swipes from bottom to top to completely empty it of its contents. Similarly, addressing the complexities of our muscles and joints demands consistent effort over time, with no quick fixes or shortcuts.

In this journey, there's no final destination to reach. Rather, it's a skill to be honed and maintained—a continuous process of unlocking and refining. When you stumble upon a stretch that brings relief or release, it's not a one-and-done affair. Rather, it becomes a cornerstone of your routine, gradually lengthening and strengthening the area to restore balance and symmetry.

Committing to movement as a meaningful aspect of life means embracing the journey, with its peaks and valleys. Progress in one area may coincide with setbacks in another—a delicate dance of push and pull. It's about pushing beyond comfort zones, taking chances, and exploring uncharted territories within our bodies.

Our bodies possess an incredible capacity for adaptation and expansion, much like our minds. As we engage in our movement practice, it's essential to extend kindness and compassion to ourselves.

Change is inevitable, and with it comes new challenges and experiences. There's nothing linear about this process; rather, it's a winding path filled with twists and turns.

Pain and discomfort are not enemies to be avoided but rather signals to be understood and addressed. It's common for individuals starting their movement journey to fall into the trap of repeating the same stretches without variation, only to be surprised when muscles become overly lengthened in one area and overly strengthened on the action side of the movement. This repetition without variation fails to address the full spectrum of movement required for balance and harmony that our body is capable of. Our only true assessment is diversity in all that we do.

Just as squeezing toothpaste from the bottom ensures the contents are fully emptied, so too must we systematically explore and address different areas of our bodies. Each movement is interconnected, from head to toe, forming a unified whole that is you. Embracing curiosity as a guide to ourselves and adhering to being mentally flexible while aiming for physical flexibility. This allows us to delve into unexplored territories, fostering a deeper understanding of our bodies capacity for expansiveness. None of us ever arrive, there will always be something to work on. Lets all decide that there is an ever expanding world in all of us and spend some time with ourselves through movement and observation.
